Mission Statement

The mission of the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is to develop champions in classrooms, on tennis courts and throughout communities.

Description

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation (MWYF) has been providing youth development programs in Jacksonville, FL since 1996. Founded by pro-tennis player and Wimbledon finalist MaliVai Washington, MWYF began with the Tennis-n-Tutoring (TnT) program at the Emmett Reed Community Center in Durkeeville, a historically black neighborhood.

In 2008, MWYF raised $3.8 million to open a Youth Center and Tennis Complex, expanding after-school programs and adding summer camps. In 2020, after raising $5 million, the Club 904 Teen Center opened, offering teens their own space and increasing capacity.

MWYF now offers daily after-school programs for low-income elementary, middle, and high school students. These programs include academic assistance, mentorship, enrichment activities, life skills, tennis lessons, and mental health counseling. MWYF also provides a full-day, six-week summer program to prevent summer learning loss for students from kindergarten through high school.

MWYF's vision is to equip young people with the resources they need to reach their full potential and become contributing members of society.
