Mission Statement
Our Mission: To offer people living with dementia opportunities for meaningful connections and pathways to physical, social and emotional well-being through mindful immersions in nature and expressive arts. Our Vision: We also work to reduce the stigma and misconceptions that often surround dementia by creating rich inter-generational experiences, instilling a sense of normalcy and community. At the same time, we offer educational support and trainings for caregivers and relevant organizations so that they will join our effort to recognize the importance of connecting people and nature and provide opportunities for growth and inspiration in all of life’s seasons.
Description
Our organization works to reframe how we view dementia and reinvent how we care for those who are living with dementia. By connecting people of all ages and abilities through community engagement and partnerships and in our lovely community garden and art space on the Ecological Preserve at Vassar College, we are changing the narrative about aging and dementia! We believe everyone has the human right to experiencing fresh air and change of seasons and having dementia should not change this. Yet, everyday, people living in care communities are denied the choice, opportunity and access to the natural world. Let's normalize "green care" for us all!
We welcome (and need!) volunteers to join this heart-centered work. If you like to garden, make art, lead programs, write grants, or be a social media director--Please join us! If you want to advocate for people living with dementia and their care partners and want more options than what is out there, please join us! If you are interested in nature-based care and would like to visit with our friends in local senior living communities, please join us!
