he Red Cross Riverside County Chapter is in need of Disaster Action Team Volunteers. Disaster Action Teams (DAT) provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters and assist the Red Cross in delivering mission by alleviating human suffering caused by disasters. DAT Associates respond to the needs of victims of local disasters (such as house fires)and provides them with compassion and the resources needed to meet their immediate needs (such as shelter, food, and clothes. Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the tasks involved in the Disaster Action Team program including: Supporting the annual goals, objectives, and regional/chapter plan for DAT services through participation in meetings, projects, and local response activities. Completes all required training and maintains current training standards as DAT program requirements change. Attends regular team meetings and training as required by the region/territory. Completes assigned projects and local response activities according to the needs of the DAT program. (Preparing vehicles, response materials, administrative support of the DAT program and other tasks assigned by the DAT Leader Time Commitment: Time commitment varies based on availability. DAT responses may be completed in less than an hour or take as long as three to four hours. Qualifications: Strong organizational, verbal, written communications skills Preferably Bilingual (looking for fluency in English and Spanish) Ability to be a team player Able to respond at all hours or as scheduled with own transportation Non-judgmental and aware of diversity issues Able to maintain confidentiality with clients matters Flexible availability Training: We provide all the training! our Title: Disaster Mental Health OR Resiliency Mental Health Volunteer We have two great programs that need Mental Health Professionals! The role of the Disaster Mental Health volunteer is to serve as a member of a temporary work unit on a disaster relief operation to provide disaster mental health support to individuals and families who have been impacted by a disaster. Our Resiliency Mental Health volunteers will provide support for the Armed Forces Resiliency program by assisting with facilitator training, supporting mental-health related events, attending VA whole health program trainings and providing general support to mental health-related needs within the Armed Forces. Requirements: CURRENTLY LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS: At minimum, holds a Master’s Degree in one of the mental health professions listed below; and Holds a current, unencumbered license from, or is registered with, any U.S. state or territory as a social worker, psychologist, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or psychiatrist (any level license/registration, including non-clinical licenses such as Licensed Masters Social Worker or LMSW) CURRENT SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS AND SCHOOL COUNSELORS: At minimum, holds a master’s degree in school psychology or school counseling; and Holds a current, unencumbered license or certification as a school psychologist or school counselor issued by an appropriate state board. CURRENT PSYCHIATRIC NURSES: Have a state license as a registered nurse; and Have a minimum of two years of experience working in a psychiatric setting, verified by a letter from a current or previous employer. RETIRED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS: Meet the above educational criteria for specified profession; and Held a license (any level license) from any U.S. state or territory as a social worker, psychologist, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, psychiatric nurse or psychiatrist, or a certificate as a school psychologist or school counselor, within the five years* prior to on-boarding as a Disaster Mental Health worker; and Maintained a license or certification in good standing upon retirement and without any disciplinary action taken by the issuing U.S. state or territory licensing or certification board. The Disaster Health Services Associate provides healthcare and first-aid for clients, and in some cases, staff. Additionally, this role assesses for and responds to public health issues in Red Cross service delivery sites. Responsibilities: *Assess and triage the health needs of the shelter population - at the time of registration and on an on-going basis. *Evaluate and treat client's illnesses and/or injuries per past history utilizing the ARC Health *Services Protocols as a guideline. *Immediately refer critical illness or injury to a higher level of care - i.e. Emergency Medical System (EMS). *Document appropriately in accordance with HIPAA guidelines to ensure client confidentiality. *Monitor shelter clients and staff for disease outbreaks and report to public health through Health Services Supervisor. *Consider if current housing or shelter is appropriate for client's required level of care. *Make appropriate community referrals. *Refer individuals with mental or emotional health issues to Disaster Mental Health workers. *Ensure ongoing sanitary conditions of restrooms, food service, and healthcare areas. Ensure the security of all medical supplies and equipment. *Inform the facility manager of any safety hazards or sanitation problems. *Arrange for replacement of emergency medication for disaster-related health needs of shelter residents in accordance with ARC regulations & policies. Time Commitment: Flexible. Works with the Disaster Action Team (DAT) participating in an on-call system. Qualifications: *Attendance in volunteer orientation and completion of all required forms (volunteer and DSHR* applications) and clear background check. *Disaster and Client Services volunteers to register in the ARC Disaster Services Human Resource system to track all trained disaster services volunteers. *Must be a Healthcare Professional with an unencumbered license or certification from an issuing authority in one of the following disciplines: -Physician (MD / DO) -Registered Nurse (RN) -Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) -Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT-B) -Paramedics (EMT-P) -Physician Assistants (PA) -Allied Health Workers (Case by Case Basis) *Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic First Aid by either the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
