Description
The Friends of Penn Lake Library work in partnership with the Friends of Hennepin County Library (FHCL). Since 2000, Friends volunteers have raised over $100,000 for our local library. Currently over 200 Bloomington residents also support Penn Lake Library with their annual memberships to FHCL.
We hold spring and fall used book sales offering exceptional bargains for book lovers, and successful fund-raising for the library!
We supported the creation of the outdoor environmental learning center as well as planting and sustaining the native garden.
We help fund the purchase of essential equipment including updated technology and sound system with microphones for the meeting room, and a cell phone/tablet charging station for patrons.
We helped plan and support special events for National Friends of Libraries Week (NFLW) , including Brodini - Magic Designed with Fun in Mind and Read to a Therapy Dog as well as accepted a NFLW proclamation issued by Mayor Tim Busse at a Bloomington City Council meeting.
We help fund book purchases and author talks for the monthly Friends of the Penn Lake Mystery Book Club. Past presentations included award winners Marcie Rendon, Brian Freeman, and William Kent Krueger.
