Mission Statement

Project 48 is dedicated to empowering youth in foster care by providing essential resources and life skills training, aiming to support their transition into independence and adulthood. Our mission encompasses alleviating the impacts of stress and trauma by fostering resilience, self-sufficiency, and emotional well-being among some of the most vulnerable youth in our community. Operating within Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties, our work addresses both immediate needs and long-term development, striving to ensure that every child in foster care feels valued, supported, and prepared to navigate life's challenges successfully. This approach seeks to mitigate negative outcomes historically experienced in the foster care system, while enhancing the health and wellness of foster care youth and building a more healthy and resilient community.

Description

Project 48 was founded on the belief that every child deserves to feel supported, prepared, and hopeful for their future, and the understanding that foster care youth face complex, systemic challenges that require comprehensive, collaborative approaches to address. Our primary mission is to offer tangible support through our Essentials Bag Program, which aims to alleviate the immediate stress and trauma associated with entering foster care, fostering a sense of dignity and self-worth among the youth we serve. In addition to immediate support, Project 48 is committed to the long-term development and success of these young individuals through our Life Skills Transitions Program, which empowers and equips older foster youth and young adults for a transition to independence and adulthood. Our overarching goals are to alleviate the emotional and logistical burdens of foster care transitions, foster independence and self-reliance among aging-out youth, and advocate for systemic improvements within the foster care experience. Year-over-year objectives include expanding our service reach to meet the needs of every child entering foster care in our service counties, maintaining strong partnerships with local agencies and organizations to ensure a collaborative and holistic support system, and continuously evaluating and adapting our programs to meet the evolving needs of the youth we serve.
