Mission Statement

We are a nonprofit ashram and spiritual community in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Callaway, Virginia, founded in the summer of 2020. This Ashram was created to be a wellspring of Divine living. It is the mission of HYA to embody as many facets of enlightened living as possible, including becoming a self-sufficient community with environmentally sustainable systems.

Description

If you come to HYA you will be part of a loving community of people who deeply care about personal growth and making a change in the world. The primary purpose of this ashram is to facilitate spiritual growth for those living at the ashram, and to be of service to humankind. Our main projects on the ground are developing agricultural systems and residential structures. Community life at HYA is vivid. There will be 13-20 people at the ashram throughout this upcoming summer. We share all meals together, make art and music together, do spiritual practices together, and enjoy community activities together. Most volunteers at the ashram are in their early-late twenties, yet all ages are welcome!

Expectations for Volunteers: At the heart of our community is a commitment made by each individual to cultivate more Divine Love in themselves, and be of service to others. We are looking for volunteers who are serious about finding personal and spiritual growth at our ashram. As a new member of HYA, we will guide you through a structured 10-day program to learn our ashram’s system of spirituality. We will also offer a 1-on-1 mentorship relationship with a more advanced spiritual student. Our system of spirituality is primarily built around Eastern modalities; specifically the four main yogas of Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Jnana Yoga. We expect new members of HYA to attend daily group spiritual practices through the 10-day program, and eventually maintain a personal daily practice afterwards. We are a substance-free and family-friendly community.
