Mission Statement
We are committed to building a healthy, aware and connected community through action and joy in our gardens. We believe everyone deserves access to healthy and nutritious food. "We Tend To Grow" is something we say that means so much. We tend to grow community, local food, healthy soil and so much more. Community growing for community, because small acts really do create a ripple effect of care.
Description
GLC was established in 2009 by community activists who felt that loneliness, the lack of food equity and lack of awareness to the care of the earth was widespread. What began as one garden operated by a group of 20 volunteers in central Denver, has now grown to 20 sites. These gardens exist in city parks, outside of food pantries, private residences and addiction recovery facilities. All of our food is donated to a recipient close to the garden, often within 2 miles. Each year we share seedlings and seeds in a few spring events. We share our produce with over 21 partners and in 2023 we grew just under 9,700 pounds. Through our fruit gleaning initiative we collected 8,700 pounds of fresh fruit. We're also a member of Grow Food Feed People coalition which consists of 15 partners who are food educators, urban food growers or food relief organizations. Each year this coalition collectively shares (for free) tens of thousands of seedlings and seeds. Our goal is to create a web of support and access to empower our communities. Join us in the garden!
