Mission Statement

To honor and celebrate the spirit of Miles Hall, the mission of The Miles Hall Foundation is to advocate for individuals and families impacted by mental illness, educate communities to reduce stigma and bias surrounding mental illness, and prevent criminalization and excessive use of force by law enforcement during mental health emergencies.

Description

Miles Hall was a 23-year-old Black man, living with his family in Walnut Creek California who was diagnosed with a serious mental illness. On June 2, 2019, just blocks from his home, Miles was shot and killed by the police after his family’s call for help during a mental health crisis situation.

To honor Miles’ life and legacy, his family started The Miles Hall Foundation (TMHF) to turn their pain into purpose. As a 501(c)(3) organization since 2021, TMHF has a solid foundation of community-based activism and advocacy, uplifting communities for racial, social, and disability justice. We work to prevent the tragedy of Miles’ death from happening to any other family with programs to end the stigma, and criminalization of mental illness and assure all people have access to compassionate, professional mental health resources and support systems.

This organization is doing great work in the Bay Area and around the state and the country. I've been volunteering with them for the past three years and find the people to be kind, supportive, and passionate toward their mission.
