Mission Statement
Special Camps is an all volunteer run, week long overnight camp for people with intellectual disabilities. Campers come to experience new activities, make friends and increase independence. Teen camp counselors are provided a life changing opportunity to learn from the campers they come to live with for the week. Families of our campers appreciate what is often their only source of respite during the year.
Description
Volunteers have so much fun in activities alongside our campers.This life changing FREE opportunity to enjoy camp, while helping some amazing campers, can hardly be described. Full of love, nurture, respect, social and community service opportunities; living side by side with our amazing campers increase teen camp counselor responsibility, respect, patience, social skills, and passion for community service.
Activities include swimming, yoga, fishing, canoeing, archery, crafts, music, talent shows, woodworking, low and high ropes course alongside our campers. The enthusiasm for our all camp, evening parties can hardly be described but include hayrides, bonfires with campfire songs, bingo, group challenges and of course they always end in a very spirited dance party.
