Mission Statement
Hello! Friends of Lackota Animal Sanctuary is actively involved with rescuing horses and donkeys from kill sales, kill pens, and other detestable situations and re-homing them to the Sanctuary. At the Sanctuary, they enjoy a peaceful life free from pain, fear, neglect, abuse, and starvation. Our mission is to save as many animals as we can from negligent and deplorable situations and bring them to the Sanctuary. From there, if the animal is able, we find strong, stable permanent homes for them whether it be through a foster home or adoption. If not, the animal will always have a home with us. Description
Friends of Lackota Animal Sanctuary is in Fort Collins, Colorado, on an expansive property at the base of the foothills capable of caring for animals such as horses, donkeys, and other species. We are actively involved with rescuing horses and donkeys from kill sales, kill pens, and other detestable situations and re-homing them to the Sanctuary to live out a peaceful life free from pain, fear, neglect, abuse, and starvation. Our mission is to save as many animals as we can from negligent and deplorable situations and bring them to the Sanctuary. Friends of Lackota Animal Sanctuary has a specific focus on horses and donkeys that are "unwanted" or "unadoptable." These animals are the seniors, the lame, the emaciated, and the all-around "hopeless" ones that cannot have a specific purpose due to illness age or injury. These animals incur higher costs due to the length of time they must live at the Sanctuary, the daily medication regimens, and their higher feed maintenance. Currently, we have 40 horses and donkeys, many of them senior animals who have injuries and disabilities.
We have been fortunate enough to gain a trainer in 2023 who helps our animals become more adoptable. For the summer of 2024, we have plans to train 2 of our horses with local children under the guidance of our wonderful trainer. We have successfully rescued over 60 animals from deplorable conditions and given each one hope for the future.
