Mission Statement
Lucky Jefferson’s mission is simple: we publish social change. Our vision is to see books reimagined to center modern readers. We curate collaborative community experiences that disrupt oppressive traditions in publishing; we take pride in centering writers and artists while cultivating inclusive representation in literature and art. In 2021, Lucky Jefferson incorporated to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Description
Established in 2018, Lucky Jefferson is a trailblazer in literary innovation, committed to publishing print and digital works annually, spanning poetry, fiction, experimental forms, and art. Our global expansion has connected communities of writers and artists aged 17-24, 24-34, and 45-54, evolving into geo-specific experiences engaging poets, non-writers, and artists interactively.
Our overarching goal is to democratize literary access. Initiatives like Discover Beaverton redefine community engagement with literature, while our free Poetry and Prose Contest challenges contest monetization, enhancing accessibility to funding for poetic work. Little Jefferson, our youth imprint, collaborates with organizations to amplify the voices of 9-13-year-olds, nurturing artistic expression from a young age.
Beyond publishing, our Creative Arts Education initiative serves over 155 students, expanding access to artistic practice. In 2022, we received a grant for our research lab, conducting focus groups with Black, African, and African-American poets and artists.
Lucky Jefferson's achievements, from impactful contests to innovative community projects, exemplify our dedication to an inclusive literary landscape. Join our dynamic journey and shape the future of literary engagement and education as a volunteer, aligning your passion with our mission. Thank you for considering Lucky Jefferson for your enthusiasm for literature and community building.
