Mission Statement
To eradicate childhood drowning by providing high-quality water safety programs that foster the proper knowledge of water safety and the 8 Basic Water Safety Skills so children can save themselves independently in case they are ever in a water emergency.
Description
Established in 2015 by CEO Tenaya Goldsmith, Big Kahuna Swim Academy traces its origins to a tragic event in 2005 when Goldsmith's classmate, Arturo Rodriguez, drowned. This spurred Goldsmith to become a swim instructor, culminating in the academy's launch in 2015. In 2020, the Childhood Drowning Prevention Foundation was founded, absorbing Big Kahuna Swim Academy as its Swim Program. With a mission to eradicate childhood drowning, they've delivered 25,494 swim lessons, imparting the 8 Basic Water Safety Skills. Operating four pivotal programs, including Swim Program, Swim Lesson Scholarship, Volunteer Program, and Outreach Program, they reach 700 lessons monthly in Norco and Riverside. Committed to raising awareness and combating the leading cause of death in children under 5, their focus revolves around immediate and sustained action.
