Mission Statement
Second Harvest Community Thrift Store seeks to meet the material and relational needs of its surrounding community by providing quality goods at affordable prices in a bright, modern, and welcoming space. Our model centers on engaging a diverse family of employees and volunteers to glean gently used clothing, housewares, and furniture from the broader Fox Chapel community, sell them affordably where they are needed most, and invest the proceeds into living wage jobs and ultimately grants to strengthen existing neighborhood programs.
Description
Second Harvest gleans the best of our community for our community. We repurpose gently used donated merchandise to be sold at a reasonably low price for those in the community who are at poverty level. We aim to pay our employees a liveable wage and a fixed schedule to afford a strong work/life balance. Our Community Table is open while the store is in operation and all are welcome. As an extension of sustainability, we offer a Community Garden in the front outside patio area, where neighbors can tend to plants. We also recently established and stock a Free Food Fridge and Pantry which we regularly keep stocked to stave off hunger from those in our community who need it most. All entrances, including the Community Garden are ADA compliant. An additional sustainability factor is our solar roof, which serves to offer green energy to the store.
