Mission Statement

The SCLC seeks to increase access to sustainable self-determination in the Sarapiquí region by providing education and training to local individuals and groups. With an underlying environmental conservation ethic, the SCLC strives to cultivate intellectual, vocational, and cross-cultural knowledge and understanding--qualities we believe are essential to leading sustainable and productive lives in the region and beyond.

Description

Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center (SCLC) was created in 1995 as a non-profit educational resource center for the surrounding communities and visitors to the Sarapiqui Region of Costa Rica. Its primary focus is to combine natural resource conservation and awareness with the enrichment of local communities through Environmental Ed, Community Development, and ESL. The SCLC is located in the Caribbean tropical lowlands on the Sarapiqui River, an hour and a half north of San Jose, on Selva Verde Lodge property. Its facilities include an airconditioned bilingual library, conference rooms, and computer and email center.
