Mission Statement
The mission of Community Action Agency of Greater Kansas City (CAAGKC) is to assist low-income residents of Clay, Jackson and Platte Counties, Missouri to become self-sufficient by providing comprehensive supportive services.
Description
The Community Action Agency offers 4 main programs; Supportive Services, Healthy Homes, Weatherization and Youth Services.
Our Healthy Homes program works to locate, reduce and eliminate home health hazards that affect the quality of life. The Weatherization program provides home improvements to increase energy efficiency. Supportive services offers a case management program and emergency financial assistance for basic necessities such as rent, clothing, medical expenses, etc. This program also collaborates with over 30 pantries within the 3 counties to offer food and toiletries. Youth services provides an after-school program for High School students, Occupational skills training for graduates, and emergency assistance for children 0-24 years of age.
One of the more unique programs offered to the community is our Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) which gives participants a glimpse into the structural barriers people in poverty face. We welcome volunteers to assist with role-playing as service providers in this simulation.
