Mission Statement
Vision for Chicago's mission is to bring high-quality vision access to underrepresented communities in Chicago and help to return residents fulfill their goals of turning their lives around.
Description
Vision care is one of the most critical necessities in one’s healthcare needs, but it is the most often overlooked and inaccessible, and those two negatives are debilitating. Many of us take our access to vision care for granted but imagine if you didn’t. It isn’t easy to quantify the impact of eyesight on reducing one’s chances of recidivating. However, ensuring returning residents can access vision care can impact their healthcare needs and other determinants of successful reentry and avoiding a return to incarceration. Access to eye care ensures safe driving and workplace safety and rules out various illnesses and diseases, among other precautions essential to successful reentry.
Vision for Chicago runs a very robust, low overhead, and streamlined programming. Since our programming fills a void that exists in the reentry and healthcare landscape, Vision for Chicago has been asked by many stakeholders to be part of their reentry programming this includes non-profit organizations, county governments (i.e., Lake County), state agencies, and other organizations covering adults and juveniles.
