Mission Statement

Pet Protectors League is a small grassroots organization comprised of very dedicated volunteers. Our goal is to help reduce the feral cat population in the area through our Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) program and also to provide homes for those cats/kittens we have rescued and rehabilitated. We primarily serve the Palos Verdes Peninsula and San Pedro.

Description

Feral cats are the offspring of domestic cats and are primarily the result of pet owners’ abandonment or failure to spay and neuter their animals, allowing them to breed. On a daily basis our volunteers feed and monitor the feral cat colonies that we have established. All of these cats receive veterinary care, neutering and vaccinations before they are released back to the areas where they were originally trapped. There are always some cats that we feel can be rehabilitated and in those cases we take these cats into our homes to work with them. This work may take many hours of bottle feeding abandoned kittens and patience to work with adults who know only fear of humans. Volunteers provide foster care for cats and kittens, while they await placement.

Each year we rescue, trap and neuter approx. 200 cats and kittens and find homes for about ½ of that. Those who could not be rehabilitated are returned to their original areas and the colonies are maintained by volunteers. All of our adopted animals are vet checked, vaccinated, tested for FELV/FIV, treated for fleas and worms and spayed/neutered.

All of our funding comes from donations and our adoption fees. We do not receive any government funding.

Pet Protectors League is a non-profit 501(c )(3) Corporation Tax ID #33-0007456
