Mission Statement
Workshop U innovates the college experience to provide more equitable career-connected outcomes for diverse learners. We focus on a more personal education that helps students build their identities and examine who they are and what they want from life. At the same time, our innovative model gives students the tools to build self-efficacy, achieve their degree, develop career readiness, and succeed in life after college.
Description
Workshop U serves young adults in Philadelphia from low-income households, most of whom identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC). Over eighty percent of our students will qualify for Federal Pell grants and state grants. These grants are awarded to students in families making less than 175% of the poverty line or about $49,000/year (though most awards go to households making less than $30,000/year). The cost of a college education is out of reach for our students, and the path to a meaningful career is uncertain. Workshop U provides the opportunity for a postsecondary education that addresses the unique needs of historically underrepresented populations to help them find direction and purpose, explore career fields, and gain durable, career-ready skills.
