Mission Statement
SOSA (Safe from Online Sex Abuse) is a nonprofit that raises awareness about and combats online child sex abuse and exploitation. We prevent harm by educating communities and advocating for effective legislation, intervene in active abuse by working with law enforcement, and support survivors by connecting them with essential resources.
Description
Prevention: Education is a key way to stop online sex abuse before it happens. SOSA works with families, schools, and communities to spread awareness about tactics ACMs use, red flags to watch for, important conversations to have, and ways to set safer online safety boundaries on their devices.
Intervention: When kids are experiencing harm online, SOSA works directly with Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces to stop that abuse. In collaboration with law enforcement, we create underage decoys, communicate with ACMs (adults contacting minors), identify perpetrators, and compile evidence so offenders may be stopped. We also work with tech companies to help them build safer platforms for their users.
Support: After online sex abuse has taken place - whether recently or years in the past - SOSA provides support to survivors. We share information about how to report, direct them to key resources, assure them that what happened was not their fault, and are building a program to provide free therapy to those who otherwise would not have access to professional support.
