Mission Statement

The SFWGA exists to foster the educational and skill development of performers and instructors in the winter guard activity, to instill in students and young adults an appreciation for the performing arts, and to build the core competencies of teamwork, leadership, and discipline through performance competition.

Description

SFWGA was established in 1980 to extend the marching band/drill team experience into the winter months. The fledgling organization was aligned with and patterned after the newly formed Winter Guard International (WGI) which had been created three years earlier to establish world-wide standards for indoor color guard judging and competition. Since then, SFWGA has grown to include over 50 competitive teams - mostly high schools but also middle schools, universities, and independent teams - from 4 South Florida counties. Our competitive season runs from Jan-Apr, and our events attract between 1000-3000 attendees each. We also sponsor educational events and professional development seminars throughout the year.
