Mission Statement
The Museum of Human Achievement (MoHA) of East Austin is an arts organization and community space founded on principles of affordability and access. We provide affordable space and professional support to individuals and organizations that have historically lacked access to institutional resources.
Description
Programs at MoHA are tailored to meet people and organizations where they are, empowering and enabling the sharing of ideas, resources, and skills to further the sustainability of the creative, low-income and working class community. MoHA’s 22-member guiding body (63% BIPOC, 54% LGBTQIA+) ensures we serve our community equitably. By integrating community vision, arts, and social practice MoHA produces 100+ free public programs annually, in total supporting 5500+ artists to 220k visitors. Our support ranges from grant writing, production assistance, touring productions, affordable or free event and office space, administrative assistance, financial planning, and individual micro-grants and commissions. Over the past 10 years, our efforts have assisted 140 first-time grant recipients, with $425k distributed through fiscal sponsorship and fundraising events (to 70% BIPOC, 61% LGBTQIA+ community). MoHA has received grant support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Texas Commission on the Arts, Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin, Economic Development Department, United Way, Small Business Administration, Danish Ministry of Culture and Palaces, and Consulate General of Mexico.
