Mission Statement

The mission of the Friends of the McGaffin Carillon in University Circle is to improve the quality of life for the thousands who live, study, teach, work, visit, and heal in the University Circle area of Cleveland. Description

  • Friends of the McGaffin Carillon in University Circle supports the programming and upkeep of this extraordinary musical instrument. As in many European communities, The McGaffin Carillon makes a unique contribution to the soundscape and cultural life of this vibrant Cleveland neighborhood. The Friends’ future plan is for expanded programming and a student guild of carillonneurs who will play the instrument daily. To that end, a complete renovation of the instrument is necessary. The first phase of that renovation was completed in 2018. For the first time in decades the three-bell swinging peal was heard when it rang to start the Cleveland Museum of Art's Parade the Circle at noon on June 9th, the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the carillon. The Friends is has raised 75% of the funds to complete the restoration and renovation that will add four new bells and replace the aging paying mechanism. To learn more about the carillon, this project and how you can be part of it see our website - www.ucbells.org.
