Mission Statement

Mission Statement FRIENDS OF THE NEW PORT RICHEY LIBRARY The Friends is formed exclusively for charitable, literary, and educational purposes as specified in Sec 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, as amended. These purposes are: To support and cooperate with the Library in developing, maintaining, and enhancing facilities, resources and services for the public. To stimulate the use of the Library’s facilities, resources, and services. To focus public attention on the Library and fundraise for new Library's services. To support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

Description

In 1963, a group of Library supporters incorporated as a charitable organization - the Friends of the New Port Richey Library. Our Friends group is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. Our group advocates for our Library, supports the staff, and raises funds and awareness for the Library. We have held fundraisers which have been profitable and afforded us to help our Library by:

  • Installing the first Story Walk in a City Park within our county
  • Purchasing new furniture for the children's room and technology for the meeting rooms at our Libraary
  • Funding our Library's staff Holiday Party
  • Paying for Library staff and Friends of the Library to attend the annual American Library Association conference in Florida
  • Establishing book-shaped benches covered in a book title and installed in front of our Library
  • Funding guest authors and other Library programs
  • Establishing Buddy Benches in local parks to support our Library's Summer theme of "Kindness"
  • Delivering books to homebound residents
  • Volunteering to assist staff with programs
  • Establishing Free Little Libraries in our City and keeping them filled
  • Connecting and collaborating with other organizations
  • And currently, we are working on raising funds for a Bookmobile
