Mission Statement

Our mission is to introduce secondary students and teachers to emerging technologies and current scientific research by developing and implementing project-based programs that are student directed.

Description

Our vision is to empower the next generation of scientists, engineers, and designers by providing them with the tools, knowledge, and motivation to succeed. Our traction goes back three decades when our founder, Peter Romero, launched the first online educational program through AOL's e-school. The program, a project-based and student directed, called "Space Islands," was recognized by JPL/NASA as a program of vision, imagination, and creativity. The State of California also recognized the program through Resolution 4058. Finally, the United States Congress placed the Space Islands program into the Library of Congress as a historical event and documented 2.3 million students and teachers from 40 nations had participated and had a positive experience. In 2000, Mr. Romero started courses called, "Thinking Like Leonardo." In 2010, he renamed the courses, "Leonardo's Apprentice." In 2018, he formed the Academy of Leonardo's Apprentice, a 501(3)c educational nonprofit. In 2021, he launched both a pilot and summer program which displayed much success. The goal now is to open these courses to CTE courses in public and private schools, with a hope to reach Foster youth, youth from single parents, and even homeless use by offering the programs and lessons free. To scale this we are looking towards industries who share our vision and will show this by offering funding, resources, and mentorships.
