Mission Statement
Our mission: rescue and transform the lives of at-risk Maasai girls by providing food & clothing, shelter, medical attention, counseling, education and training in a loving familial and safe environment. We prepare the girls for a future of financial independence and self-sufficiency by developing a well-documented personalized plan for each girl. The scope of our mission is to accept highly at-risk girls who are avoiding Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) or other extreme abuses, early childhood marriage, or are abandoned with no immediate family. The typical age of the girls who are residents at MGRC range from 3-18 years.
Description
Maasai Girls Rescue Center (MGRC) began with one man rescuing one girl in Africa. One bold single act of kindness turned into building an entrepreneurial organization fully managed by local leaders who are turning a vision into action every day.
Our local entrepreneurial team operates based on these tenets:
- We are creating sustainable results that will solidify this change in current and future lives.
- We are a volunteer run organization. Partner companies and angle donors pay all marketing, fundraising and business systems. Therefore, all public donations go directly to the care of our girls. The only paid employees are local Tanzanians providing direct care for the girls.
MGRC works with local schools, forging relationships with school officials and contributing support. After school, we provide tutoring. We started 2020 with six students in preschool, 24 in primary school and one in secondary school. We finished the school year with four in preschool, 45 in primary and one in secondary. 75% of our girls are in the top 25% of their class!
