Mission Statement
Educate Girls Now is dedicated to ensuring Afghan girls, now banned from school, are able to continue their education and pursue their dreams.
Description
Since 2014, Educate Girls Now, has been providing stipends, physical, and educational support to mothers in Afghanistan who make a commitment to educate their girls rather than forcing them to become child brides or leave school to support their family.
Since August 2021, girls have been forbidden to attend 7th - 12th grade and University. Realizing the critical situation, EGN started online classes, home tutoring, local mentors, and after school programs for girls in grades 7 through 12. Girls are now receiving personalized education programs to ensure a generation of girls do not lose their opportunity for an education.
Now that universities are also closed to young women, EGN's new project gives eligible high school girls the educational and psychosocial tools to be accepted and succeed at the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh. These are the girls who, developed a low-cost, lightweight ventilator to help treat patients diagnosed with Covid in Afghanistan, and a mechanized wheelchair out of used car parts to help others.
These are exceptional young women, activists, and role models for other young women in Afghanistan and around the world. To quote one of our students: I am in Afghanistan where girls are not allowed to study. In fact, since we, on the robotics team are educated and strong young women, we are being hunted. I fear I will be forced to marry a Taliban soldier and lose all my hope. With your help, one day my efforts will allow me to reach my dreams.
