Mission Statement

The purpose of the project is to align community resources in an effort to prepare students for college. We provide significant support to assist students to plan and be prepared for college study. To achieve these goals we will provide all participants with programs for career exploration and early college planning, academic support, college preparation, counseling for personal developement and mentoring. We will work with our community to support student achievement and college preparation.

Description

Gear Up is a federally funded non-profit organazation supported by San Jose State University Foundation and the Counselor Education Department. Our team consists of professors, graduate students, undergraduates, teachers, administrators, and volunteers who work together at Steinbeck to increase the academic and personal success of the 7th grade students. We offer the students programs like sports, art, group workshops, music, choir, filed trips, tutoring, relationship and slef-esteem building, and mentoring among other things.
