Mission Statement

Sedona Arts Center is a nonprofit educational institution dedicated to nurturing creative discovery, learning, and sharing through arts education and artistic development.

Description

Sedona Arts Center was founded in 1958 and was named "Canyon Kiva".

On April 26, 1961 the Arts Center formally opened as Sedona Arts Center, Inc. and has been a cultural and educational anchor in Sedona ever since. Nassan Gobran, the founder of the Arts Center, had the vision and saw the need for an arts center in Sedona to provide enrichment to the visitors and residents as well as distinguish Sedona as a serious art community.

The Barn was built in 1940 by George & Helen Jordan as an apple and peach packing center for the orchard owners in Sedona. The Barn was purchased from the Jordans in 1960 and the Arts Center celebrated its grand opening in April 1961. An art show featuring the work of Max Ernst and his wife Dorothea Tanning highlighted the occasion. That event signed on 250 of the first members of the Sedona Arts Center. The Arts Center instantly became a gathering spot for the small community of about 350 people. The Sedona Arts Center Gallery building became a reality in 1995. It is designed to showcase the creativity of our member artists. The juried work of emerging as well as nationally recognized artists is presented together.
