Mission Statement

Mission: Equip our city’s brightest students with the tools to propel them to college and career success. Developed by a science consultant to help under-represented students become science and technology professionals, Building STEPS increases the number of students who earn a college degree and enter STEM and healthcare careers. Launched in Baltimore in 2000, and partnering with our city’s more challenged, under-resourced public high schools, Building STEPS unlocks potential and propels high achieving, highly motivated students to college and career success.

Description

A college degree changes lives. For the past 22 years, Building STEPS (Science, Technology and Education Partnerships, Inc.) has been helping high school students from Baltimore City achieve college and career success. Multiyear programming exposes students to unimaginable STEM career opportunities, links education to professional opportunity, and ensures students earn a college degree as the first step in reaching their newfound career goals. With nearly 80% of program graduates earning a college degree, Building STEPS is making a significant impact in the lives of hundreds of students and their communities. Graduates of the program return to Baltimore as young professionals, buying homes, starting families, and volunteering. They are the future leaders of Baltimore, improving the quality of life in our communities.
