Mission Statement
To strive with intention to conserve and acquire land and practice respectful stewardship through education, public outreach, and resource management to preserve Volcan Mountain in its natural state for future generations.
Description
The Volcan Mountain Foundation owns nearly 500 acres that make-up VMF's Volcan Mountain Nature Center, which is located at the headwaters of the San Dieguito River in Julian, CA. The 15-mile-long mountain range (the Volcans) is also the headwaters of two other waterways, making Volcan Mountain a critical area to protect.
The Volcan Mountain Foundation has three primary goals:
1. To acquire land or act as a middleman between willing sellers and conservation agencies for the purpose of preserving wild habitats.
2. To conserve and steward the land that VMF owns. Activities include removing invasive species, monitoring wildlife through its wildlife imaging program,
conducting plant surveys, quarterly bird counts, and other biological surveys. For fuel and fire management, VMF also does pile burns as needed.
3. To educate children through its outdoor education program as well as provide inspiring and educational venues for adult life-long learners.
