Description

Help Prepare Computers for Classrooms in Developing Countries. Come join others in a friendly welcoming volunteer environment to make a difference in the lives of children in developing countries. We seek dedicated people with a wide range of technical skills. World Computer Exchange (WCE) is an international educational nonprofit that collects and refurbishes donated, used computers for shipment to classrooms in developing countries. Since 2000, WCE has connected over 5 million youth to digital resources, empowering them to reach their full potential. The Dallas Chapter of WCE is just forming to collect computer donations and recruit volunteers to refurbish computers. We are currently looking for volunteers that can pick up and store laptops or potentially lead teams of people to refurbish in their area. Anyone in the Greater Dallas area is welcome to join. What we do: inventory equipment, testing, clean equipment, wiping hard drives, and installing operating systems and educational programs. Teens and adults are welcome. Basic computer skills are needed. All of our tasks except repair can be learned during our orientation. Our volunteer events are attended by many high school students fulfilling their community service requirements. We are also looking for high school students interested in starting refurbishing clubs at their schools. Email Dallas@WorldComputerExhange.org for more information or to sign up.
