Mission Statement

The Santa Barbara County Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Commission is responsible for inquiring into the administration of juvenile justice in the county.

Description

JJDPC commissioners' duties include:

  • Conducting inspections of institutions authorized to house and service juveniles, as well as jails and lockups within the county used to confine minors
  • Reporting inspection findings to relevant legal and agency authorities, flagging any issues related to the safety and well-being of the young people involved
  • Holding hearings using the subpoena power of the juvenile court judge, and
  • Recommending changes to the provisions of the juvenile court law and policies to any administrator.
