Mission Statement

Our Mission is to Preserve, Restore and Celebrate the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse for Future Generations.

Description

We are Friends of the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse, a 501c3 non-profit organization. Founded in January, 2022, our focus is to Preserve, Restore and then Celebrate the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse, which stands at the entrance to Chicago Harbor, just off of Navy Pier. Chicago was once the busiest commercial port on all of the great lakes and since 1893 the current lighthouse has been a beacon to commercial mariners and recreational boaters. Like many lighthouses, our lighthouse is an unfortunate victim of many years of neglect and deferred maintenance. We are working to return the lighthouse to its former glory, add the ability for the public to access the lighthouse and establish a museum/interpretive center for the people of Chicago.

We are currently an all-volunteer organization, from our Board to our working groups. Our passionate team is comprised of historians, boaters, preservationists, communications professionals, fundraising experts and individuals with relevant construction experience.

Our work environment includes: no set schedule, and a completely virtual organization that is professional, respectful, supportive and collaborative
