Mission Statement
To preserve and protect the Presidential Yacht USS Potomac for use as a classroom and floating museum dedicated to imparting to present and future generations the continuing impact of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt era, a consequential time in American history. The USS Potomac Association is committed to preserving the legacy of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt through education for students and adults. Educational cruises highlight the impact of the FDR Era on our local and national history. Docents lead history tours of the USS Potomac for the general public and/or educational programs for primarily fifth grade students.
Description
The USS Potomac Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the presidential yacht USS Potomac, used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1936 to his death in 1945. At 165 feet long, the vessel is a National Historic Landmark. It is the only museum on the West Coast dedicated to the history and legacy of the 32nd president of the United States. The Association tells the story of FDR through its various dockside tours , cruises, and educational programs for schoolchildren throughout the year.
