Mission Statement

The South African Film Festival USA - SAFF USA is a film festival with a heart and conscience, organized by a group of passionate volunteers, bringing South African films to audiences in the USA. The proceeds of the festival support Education without Borders (EwB), an education foundation established and operating in South Africa since 2002. EwB provides after school educational and mentoring opportunities for disadvantaged and at risk children in South Africa. The South African Film Festival is part of a larger group of international South African Festivals all supporting Education without Borders (EwB), SAFF USA is a registered not for profit charity.

Description

SAFF USA was established in 2021 in the US. The film festival was originally foundered by Ruth and Cecil Hershler in Vancouver Canada in 2011 in order to fund their non profit organization Education without Borders (EwB) - A festival was created in Australia and New Zealand in 2018. These festivals are all run by volunteers and have been incredibly successful. The festival in the USA was started during Covid so it has been solely streaming online. This year we are attempting to bring the festival to the attention of many more people across the USA and we are looking for volunteers across the country to help us do this.
