Mission Statement
AZJHS MISSION: The Arizona Jewish Historical Society preserves and celebrates the rich heritage of Arizona’s Jewish communities, educates the public about the Jewish historical experience including the Holocaust, and promotes awareness of our state’s diverse history through arts, culture, and educational programming.
Description
The Arizona Jewish Historical Society (AZJHS) celebrates the heritage of Arizona's Jewish communities, educates the public about Jewish genealogy, culture, arts and history including the Holocaust. We provide educational programming for educators and students in Arizona. AZJHS is housed in a century old historic building that once served as Phoenix's first Synagogue. A summer concert series, film and book clubs and gallery exhibits are just a part of the work done by AZJHS. We are currently planning a 18,000 sq. ft. Holocaust and Genocide education center. In April of 2022, AZJHS earned the Museum Association of Arizona Institutional Award of Excellence.
