Committee of Consciousness is a newly formed non-profit organization that strives to empower others through education. The vision was born in November 2019 and was set to launch its inaugural fundraising event, The Black Vegan Experience, on March 14, 2020...then the world changed. A percentage of the proceeds from The Black Vegan Experience goes to Committee of Consciousness’ organization to fund building the knowledge base of plant-based nutrition, meal planning, budgeting and related nutrition services in local communities. Director, Vonettia Calloway and her fellow COC members believe educating others empowers them to make informed choices in addition to helping us all hold each other accountable to higher standards of self-care and caring for Earth. COC plans to partner with other organizations on projects that eradicate food deserts and grant access to healthy food for all. By the spring of 2023, COC has been able to reach an audience of 100K across platforms and community events, provide transportation to families needing service, one-to-one and group nutrition consultations, outreach events, referrals to affordable health care and health & wellness workshops within the community and award academic scholarships to students exploring veganism.
