Mission Statement

New Jersey Theatre Alliance was founded in 1981 by five professional theatres on the belief that the theatre community is stronger united, not divided, and that one theatre’s success is a success for all. Today we serve 42 professional theatres in New Jersey and the region, representing fifteen of the state’s twenty-one counties as well as Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The mission of New Jersey Theatre Alliance is to unite, promote, strengthen, and cultivate New Jersey’s professional theatres. We advance the theatre community by developing innovative, collaborative, and engaging programs and services for member theatres and their diverse audiences. New Jersey Theatre Alliance and its members envision a field that is flourishing, collaborative, and equitable for artists, administrators, member theatres, organizations, and audiences.

Description

We pioneer several programs, networks and services that help professional theatres and theatre artists in New Jersey and the region. Here are some examples:

  • The Stages Festival is an annual three-month spring celebration of theatre featuring over 80 free and low-cost theatre events.
  • The Cultural Access Network Project, established in 1992, is a program of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and New Jersey Theatre Alliance. The Project provides a wide range of services to assist theatres and cultural organizations in making their programs and facilities accessible to seniors and people with disabilities.
  • The Creating Change Network is a program of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance in partnership with ArtPride New Jersey, that aims to build a more equitable, just, accessible, and anti-racist theatre and arts community.
  • The New Jersey Arts and Culture Administrators of Color is a network of professional arts administrators of color dedicated to advancing efforts related to equity, diversity, and inclusion within New Jersey’s arts community.
We also provide professional development and training, combined auditions that allow local actors to simultaneously share their talents with professional theatres all over the region and pandemic support and relief.
