Description

Merica House is a private, independent living home managed by the local nonprofit Alliance for the Physically Disabled (APD) that can accommodate up to seven adults with significant physical disabilities. Merica House eligible residents are between the ages of 18-49 at the time of admission, and have multiple functional physical limitations (vision, hearing, speech, ambulation) and require full-time assistance with activities of daily living (ADL) such as eating, bathing, getting dressed, transferring, and personal hygiene, and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) such as getting around outside the house, preparing meals, or doing light housework.

Conveniently located in the Skyline Plaza in the City of Falls Church, Merica House is a fully accessible, ADA-compliant home with two double-occupancy and three single occupancy rooms, with private, accessible baths. The ADA modifications, along with contracted 24/7 home health aide support, and a full-time Resident Services Coordinator offer accommodation to individuals who use a wheelchair and/or may be vision- or hearing-impaired. For nonelderly adults with physical disabilities, Merica House is an affordable, accessible means to achieve independent living in their home community of Fairfax County. It is an empowering model of self-directed care and opportunities to participate fully in the community.
