Virtual Opportunity
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a disabling, complex, neuroimmune disease that impacts about 4.3 million Americans of all ages. 90% of patients are undiagnosed and most healthcare workers haven't even heard of ME/CFS. Volunteers working on this project will try to schedule and set up events with the help of MEAction, a global ME/CFS advocacy group, at local hospitals and medical schools to educate. This volunteer should have strong organization skills, be able to set up public relations opportunities, communicate and reach out to hospitals and medical schools, and help at events (each will probably be a single 1-2 hour educational session). Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Time Commitment: At least a 4 hour/week flexible commitment Onboarding Process: It would be helpful to attend a MEAction info session. Desired Skills/Experience: Strong communication skills. Social media and PR experience would be a plus. Physical Requirements: This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and the space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible. For event attendance, their organization is flexible with accommodations. Attire: Most work will be remote, but if volunteers attend the events, smart casual is recommended. ME/CFS San Diego The mission of ME/CFS San Diego is to work locally to raise awareness of ME/CFS, to help educate healthcare workers and researchers, to increase access and support for ME/CFS patients, and internationally to add our voices to ME/CFS advocacy actions. Our goal is to be a part of improving life for ME/CFS patients. *Important information *Volunteer time shifts are broken down into the following time frames: Sunday Morning Sunday Afternoon Sunday Evening Monday Morning Monday Afternoon Monday Evening Tuesday Morning Tuesday Afternoon Tuesday Evening Wednesday Morning Wednesday Afternoon Wednesday Evening Thursday Morning Thursday Afternoon Thursday Evening Friday Morning Friday Afternoon Friday Evening Saturday Morning Saturday Afternoon Saturday Evening

ME/CFS San Diego has different awareness actions and a wonderful group of volunteers, but they need help scheduling and connecting volunteers to tasks. Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Physical Requirements: This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations. Their organization will work with anyone who is disabled to determine what accommodations they need. Attire: This is mostly a remote position so appropriate attire is only needed if the coordinator attends anything in-person or over Zoom. Virtual Opportunity
ME/CFS San Diego wants to start a quarterly newsletter. The newsletter would help them reach patients, caregivers, healthcare workers, researchers, legislators, and the general public with information about ME/CFS, resources, and how they can make a difference They are looking for volunteers who can help plan and write content, design and organize the newsletter, and determine how to promote it. Their goal is more awareness and education, and less fundraising (they only hold a fundraiser once/year) so they want the newsletter to focus on their actions, awareness, education, and ME/CFS resources Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes Time Commitment: A 3-4 hour/week commitment for a year is preferred but their organization is very flexible. Onboarding Process: You will be provided with information about ME/CFS information to help you understand what you will be working on. Additional training is to be determined. Required Skills/Experience: Able to type or output text, communicate and work with others remotely, and willing to learn about ME/CFS Desired Skills/Experience: Any journalism, communications, PR, background is a plus. They would love to eventually be able to have translation options so fluency in additional languages would be great Physical Requirements: Typing or some form of being able to produce text for the e-newsletter. This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations and is flexible since you would volunteer remotely from home. Attire: This is an entirely remote, asynchronous opportunity - if volunteers need to connect with anyone through zoom or in-person, they would prefer that volunteers dress appropriately to reflect their organization. Clothing that is informal and comfortable, yet clean and professional would be great.
