Mission Statement

The City of Santa Monica is committed to developing and implementing policies and programs that promote a flourishing natural environment, a resilient economy, and an equitable and thriving community while integrating resource management, conservation, and inclusive practices into ongoing City operations. For more than 25 years, our mission has been to use the power of community to enhance our resources, prevent harm to the natural environment and human health, and benefit the social and economic well-being of the community for the sake of current and future generations.

Description

Our Community Garden Program began with the construction of the Main Street CG in 1976. Our soon to be 5 Gardens provide active living opportunities to Santa Monica residents and a way to engage in Urban Agriculture and create unique, biodiverse habitats that support our efforts to be a Sustainable City through local food production, sustainable land stewardship, community composting, water conservation practices, and community engagement. Community Gardens are a source of pride for our community, and we actively look for ways to engage the greater community through our monthly programs, workshops and events. Gardens are therapeutic, energizing and engaging. We like to say Think Globally, Garden Locally, with every day being Earth Day and an opportunity to Get Dirty.
