When we talk about children welfare programmes, we are talking about children in orphanages who are either from street families with no parents at all or those who've been abandoned by their parents for various reasons including drug abuse and alcoholism or those parents who felt they can't afford basic needs for them. These children are taken in by well-wishers in various orphanages or by the government in orphanages where they're sheltered, fed and taken to school or day care centers. In most of these orphanages, children are given proper care and love despite the fact that there is scarcity of resources needed for their daily use. Different cultural communities in Kenya have different beliefs and practices towards women, girls and or boy child. Some of these practices lack inclusivity on important matters like education, inheritance and many other social matters. In some communities, they still hold the native beliefs that a girl child is not to be educated for reasons well known to themselves while others say the boy child is not to be educated and he therefore should be a herdsman all his life to look after cattle. all these practices eventually leaves these individuals feeling sidelined and some choose to run away from their homes to look for wellwishers who can take them to school. Others run away because of forced marriages or even forced female genital mutilations (F.G.M's). These women therefore need psychological as well as practical help. Some of them have come together to campaign against these vices while others have their own projects that require empowerment and and or counselling. Training on hygiene too especially on menstrual hygiene on women and training on abstinence for both Women, Girl and Boychild untill they are of age different from these cultural beliefs. Women are trained to be self sufficient, driven and bold enough to stand against these vices. Incase of those with projects, they are helped to market their products locally and international. Sports is one of the programs that have had a very positive impact In the lives of young people locally. Most of them who have for a long time been lost into drugs and drugs abuse have found their niche in sporting. In most cases we have football as the most popular sport where a lot of youth come together in the evenings to play football as a way of refreshment and positive interaction. These teams have their leaders and captains who organize tournaments on various seasons where if they're lucky enough, these tournaments are sponsored by local companies or even individuals where they're awarded trophies or money as a team to the winning team and other gifts which could be balls or team uniform as a way of encouragement. Volunteers have been of much help in this program where if they are sports enthusiasts they help in coaching and at times just interacting with the young men and playing together where the youth have a taste of playing soccer the professional western way. They also help in organizing tournaments or even marketing the teams in platforms where they can get sponsorships and hence bring a taste of professionalism and passion for the game. Sports Volunteering Program in Kenya , Africa In this program, volunteers are free to bring gifts to the teams like Balls, nets, trophies to be competed against or even team uniforms and any other gift they may feel free to bring for the teams. Environmental Conservation Volunteering in Kenya, this program is one of the game changers in the volunteering programs. It is diverse in that it can be done in schools, in the community or even in government related organizations. Environmental programs are broad because they may involve trees planting, building of gabions that prevent erosion, recycling, mass cleaning of rivers or institutions like schools where volunteers have the opportunity to teach children and the community on safe ways to handle waste and such. In some cases, volunteers have seen mass planting of trees in schools and even in conservancies and around community places like markets and community fields. They therefore have a chance to foresee planting of trees and with their expertise in environmental management trained the community and schools on the best breed of trees and flowers or even grass to be planted in a specific place. Where we are lucky enough to secure placements in companies, volunteers have had a chance to train staffers on recycling of waste or water to be useful in their day to day lives and also to plant trees together either for beautification and or natural shade. Also in farms, volunteers have had a chance to train farmers on proper ways of handling waste and with the progress in this, we are looking forward to having volunteers train farmers on value addition which is part of environment management where they can use dung for production of biogas or bee wax for production of beauty products and the like. The most satisfying part of this program is that a volunteer will have a chance to exploit their potential in Environment conservation and to bring in their innovativeness while making the nation green! A volunteer is free to carry simple working materials like hard gloves because it may involve touching rough surfaces like trees. This program has an additional fee of $100 per 2 weeks to cover for placement logistics. Duration : Charges Week 1 $295 Week 2 $495 Week 3 $695 Week 4 $895 Week 5 $1095 Week 6 $1295 Week 7 $1495 Week 8 $1695 Week 9 $1895 Week 10 $2095 Anyone wishing to have their program extended will be required to communicate the same a week before so as to have it planned and pay 35 USD per day and if more than a week, program fee will be required depending on the extension duration.
