Mission Statement

To positively impact the lives of Powhatan students in grades K-8 by providing adult support and learning opportunities that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the introduction of a suitable mentor. The Lunch Buddies Program Mentors will be part of a team that takes responsibility for a child and will spend time being an adult positive role model for the youth mentees. Mentors invest their time in listening, building trust, establishing a relationship, supporting and guiding the mentees. It is the objective of the program that the support given to the mentee will inspire more of an interest in school, a rise in attendance, higher grades, and fewer classroom referrals. Each mentor should be prepared to dedicate at least a half hour per week to their mentee to accommodate the predetermined lunch times of the student mentee.
