Recruit a friend or family member to become a volunteer with you. You don't have to volunteer alone. What role do Hospice Volunteers play? Administrative and General Support Provides office support for direct patient care (put together packets of information for patient/caregiver, creating patient/family teaching material, mailings, filing, performing tuck-in phone calls, maintaining tuck-in call binder, etc.). Patient Care Provides in-person activities and companionship. In person volunteers are needed for patients that are either still in their home and/or with patients that reside in assisted living facilities. The goal of the volunteer is to provide much needed companionship and socialization to patients and often the caregivers as well. A volunteer visit may consist simply of socializing with the patient, the caregiver or both. Often caregivers are in desperate need of a break and would like a volunteer to stay with their loved one while the caregiver runs an errand, goes to an appointment or just takes some time to himself/herself. Activities while in the home or facility may include reading, listening, talking, a life review, watching a patient’s favorite shows, playing board or card games, scrapbooking, looking at books, fidget blankets, coloring, puzzles, respite, singing, playing musical instruments, sitting outside and enjoying the weather... Bereavement Provides in-person, phone, or office support for the bereavement program and interacts with the family in a caring and compassionate manner. Assists with arrangements after death, agency memorial services or activities (set up and clean up), community education on end-of-life issues, mailing memorial invitations and reminder calls, attending agency bereavement group, composing notes for bereavement cards, calling bereaved to see how their holiday went, etc. Professional This may include hospice interdisciplinary team and complementary alternative integrative health services roles. 4 Reasons to Become a Hospice Volunteer You can make a real difference - in your own life and in the lives of others. You’ll be part of a community - and a team - dedicated to helping those facing life’s most difficult circumstances. You can enhance your personal and professional growth. You can choose your own schedule and participate in activities you enjoy and are passionate about. If you have a passion for helping others and making a difference, consider becoming a hospice volunteer. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life. Whether you contribute your time and talents directly with patients or prefer to work behind the scenes, we invite you to become a member of a dedicated group of compassionate caregivers who serve as vital members of our hospice team.

Bring a smile to the faces of our patients and caregivers by calling to check in on them to see how they are doing and if they need anything. Tuck-in calls are done one day a week and only take a couple hours. You can sign up to make the calls every week or just one week a month. Whatever time you have to give is much appreciated.
