Mission Statement

Dedicated to cultivating local and global community and cross-cultural understanding through the practice of harmony singing, Kitka is a professional women's vocal arts ensemble and institute that produces concerts, recordings, community participation, and cultural exchange projects that develop appreciation for music rooted in Eastern European and Eurasian polyphonic vocal traditions. Kitka also strives to expand the boundaries of this music as an expressive art form through the creation of new work.

Description

Kitka’s mission is accomplished through an Oakland-based home series of concerts and vocal workshops; leadership of community choirs: national, and international touring programs; community service activities; broadcasts; recording and publication projects; artist residencies; commissioning programs; and adventuresome collaborations with some of the world’s most compelling traditional and contemporary multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary artists.
