Mission Statement

A community-based organization that is primarily geared towards the preservation of the Hervey Town African American History & continued progress of the communities' generational growth.

Description

Hervey Town is an African American community on the east side of Main Street in Nicholasville, KY, named after James Hervey, a banker who owned most of the land where the community was located in the 1800s. Mr. Hervey helped African-American community members with securing the purchasing of land, in that area, for homeownership. Because of this, the area became affectionately known as "Hervey Town."

Most residents' family history in Nicholasville goes as far back as the establishment of Nicholasville. Currently, almost 40% of the African-American population is living in poverty. The neighborhood was once a bustling area, with a black-owned grocery store, active community center, local swimming pool, & group activities. The HNA's goal is to bring life back into the community. We are working on a Food Pantry project, more community activities,

We are hosting the 3rd annual Jessamine Juneteenth Festival this year & are currently in the planning phase. Last year we were featured on local network Lex18 & AARP Kentucky.
