During open hours for the SEAC Tool Shed (seactoolshed.org), we will need consistent volunteers for a variety of tasks, catered to the volunteer's expertise and comfort. This includes customer service, advising customers on repair/DIY projects, loans processing, and donation processing - among many other things! For some who want to go above and beyond, we would love to invite you to help out in offsite events promoting our programs and ensuring the events we host in the community go smoothly. We'll work with you to find where you're comfortable and giving back in a way you choose and enjoy. We will also be piloting a new feature of the program - a mobile unit, soon to be parked at a rec center near you and all over the city! This new endeavor will also increase our need for knowledgeable, handy volunteers.

In the course of usual wear-and-tear as well as new donations coming into SEAC's Tool Shed (seactoolshed.org), we will always need dedicated volunteers with expertise to repair and evaluate our inventory. Whether you would want to work from our space or take tools home with you to work from the comfort of your own garage, no problem! We'll find an arrangement that makes you a valuable part of the Tool Shed team on your terms. We will also be starting two new programs this year - a Mobile version of the Tool Shed, coming to a rec center near you, as well as a quarterly Repair Cafe. There'll be no end to the tinkering and expertise needs!

Things break all the time. Household appliances, clothing, toys, furniture - and too often, our first impulse is to toss it. It’s cheaper to replace, it’s hard to learn how to fix things! Enter the concept of the repair clinic. By bringing in your item, volunteer experts and hobbyists get a crack at giving your broken items a second lease on life - and prevent landfills from piling up in a cheap, mass-produced economy - while teaching you the skills you can bring forward to your own life! If you have a passion for teaching and tinkering - anything from electrical to sewing to antiques - the SEAC Repair Crew might be a perfect fit for you to volunteer your time and wisdom. Reach out and see if your skills could help contain our carbon footprint, save people money, and discourage wastefulness!

Organization Information
Mission Statement
Promoting quality of life within Rochester's south east quadrant by connecting individuals and community partners to essential resources
Description
SEAC was first established as a neighborhood and zoning advocate in the 1960's and 70's, becoming an official 501c3 nonprofit in 1972. Since 2021, SEAC created four pillars of focus - Poverty, Neighborhoods, Children, and Local Business - allowing it to have a greater impact in delivering our mission to the South East area community. With the establishment of its Tool Shed library program for the entire Greater Rochester Area, its coordination with numerous Neighborhood and Merchants Associations in its Service Area, and its cooperation with local, city, state, and federal leadership, SEAC has become an indispensable catalogue of resources.
