The Directing Change Program seeks volunteers to review youth-created film and art projects centered on mental health and suicide prevention. This is a great way to engage community members, stakeholders and partners in your county. Judging is completed entirely online and typically involves a total time commitment of less than 2 hours. This is a virtual volunteering opportunity, as all judging will be completed online. That said, as a California program, we are specifically seeking to grow our volunteer base in Orange County. We seek those with an interest in any of the following: film, directing, writing, visual art, music, public service announcements and/or public health, journalism, video production, social justice, suicide prevention and/or mental health. You do not need to be an expert in these fields to judge (although you certainly can be!). Please fill out a judging interest form if you'd like to volunteer: http://www.directingchangeca.org/judging-application/ Directing Change Judges review up to 15 submissions of various film or art submissions and complete an online scoring form for each (time commitment of less than 2 hours). For our annual film contest, judging takes place in late March. For our monthly film and art contests, judging takes place during the first 2 weeks of each month. Judges are welcome to judge every month or as they are available. Judges can judge either our annual contest, our monthly contests, or both. Judging applications are accepted throughout the year and are accepted on a rolling basis; however, if you'd like to participate in our 2023 annual contest judging, please reach out or submit the online form by the first week of March 2023 if possible. P lease feel free to forward this opportunity to anyone in your community or network who might have an interest in becoming a Directing Change judge. For more information, fill out the judging application at http://www.directingchangeca.org/judging-application/ or contact Dori Thomas at Dori@directingchange.info. The Directing Change Program offers young people the opportunity to win prizes and promote mental health by expressing their feelings, taking action, and inspiring others through film and art. The annual film contest asks youth grades 5-12 (ages 12-25) to create 60-second films around the topics of suicide prevention and mental health. The monthly Hope & Justice category asks young people to explore how they are coping through tough times. For Hope & Justice, students may submit entries related to the themes of "Hope," "Justice," or the monthly prompt, and all art forms are accepted (poetry, original music, short films, visual art, TikToks, dance and more).
