We are looking for tutors who are fluent in Spanish and English. The Center for Immigrant Education and Training (CIET) is looking for volunteer tutors to support CIET's Online Learning Hub. CIET Online Learning Hub offers one-on-one online academic support in Math, Science, and ELA to low-income school-aged children. Volunteer tutors will make it possible for CIET to continue addressing educational inequities exacerbated by the pandemic. To volunteer, we require that you meet the following criteria: Be available to volunteer for at least 2 hours weekly. Provide tutoring on any weekday after 4:00 pm or on weekends Commit to supporting CIET's Family Literacy children in improving their literacy, science, and math skills and/or help with homework. Commit to following all CIET's policies and procedures, including confidentiality and boundaries. Provide feedback on student progress and/or concerns to CIET staff. Must be comfortable using online platforms such as Zoom. Must be 18 years old or older. The Center for Immigrant Education and Training (CIET) at LaGuardia Community College offers free, contextualized English classes, job training programs, career counseling, and case management services to low-income Queens immigrants and their families. We aim to support our students in becoming lifelong learners and independent, contributing citizens of New York City. This opportunity is ideal for students or recent college graduates who need to gain more work experience. Qualifications Reliable and committed Basic computer skills Strong interest in working with refugees and immigrants Must be flexible and willing to help out when and where needed Must have excellent customer service skills, along with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize Fluent in Spanish Available to work in-person Responsibilities Assist staff with copying and filing documents, scanning and making phone calls to confirm appointments, and Answering phone calls. The volunteer will also help with other administrative tasks This position requires a three-month commitment and at least 6 - 10 hours per week Orientation and training will be provided.
