Mission Statement

The Lake View Cemetery Foundation works to ensure the beauty of Lake View Cemetery’s historically and architecturally significant buildings, monuments, and gardens, will be preserved for future generations to enjoy; and to provide educational outreach programs to benefit and enrich the community.

Description

Established in 1869 by some of Cleveland’s earliest visionaries, Lake View Cemetery (Lake View) is committed to providing interment services to all races and religions while preserving its grounds and status as a nationally recognized landmark of historical significance. Modeled after the Victorian and Edwardian garden cemeteries of France and England, Lake View’s 285 acres are filled with dramatic natural landscapes, streams and ponds, glorious rock formations, a stunning array of shrubs and flowering plants, and some of the oldest trees in the Greater Cleveland area.

Every year, more than 100,000 individuals visit Lake View; a mix of local, regional and national guests. In addition to the traditional purpose of visiting to remember a loved one, Lake View was designed to offer recreation and respite, offering a rich palette of walks, talks & tours. These programs highlight the history of Cleveland through the stories of individuals, from all walks of life, who are resting here.
